Our Story

The Dowd Family

Broad Run Vizslas is located in the Piedmont of the Blue Ridge Mountains, in Virginia's Horse and Wine Country.  Our name, Broad Run, is taken mostly from a stream and field where our first Vizslas loved to hunt and swim.  For the past twenty-two years we have been enjoying the Vizsla breed. We became interested in the Vizsla while searching for a dog that would be a great hiking companion and pet.  Little did we know that we would become so involved in the breed over the years.  We have successfully competed in AKC field trials, hunt tests and conformation shows.  We have bred two dogs who have become Dual Champions.  We have hunted quail, pheasant, grouse and woodcock with our dogs.  We are long time members of the Vizsla Club of America, and the Conestoga Vizsla Club (Virginia, Maryland and DC Regional Club), and advocates of breed rescue.

Our breeding program focuses on producing versatile Vizsla puppies with sound health and temperament, correct conformation and an innate natural hunting instinct.  We abide by and follow the Vizsla Club of America's Code of Ethics.  We are honored to be an AKC Breeder of Merit, which recognizes purebred dog breeders that breed for correct standard, temperament, and ability.  When we have a litter; our puppies are raised inside of our home, in a family setting, not in a facility or out-building.  We only occasionally have puppies available, and we usually start securing our puppy buyers before a breeding takes place.  Our puppy buyers become part of our extended family. Please never buy a Vizsla, or any dog, from a pet store or backyard breeder.  You may want to consider rescuing a Vizsla.

This website is designed to share information on the Vizsla breed's versatility, and specifically on the Vizslas of Broad Run Vizslas and its relatives.  Please feel free to contact us with any questions or suggestions.  Check out our FaceBook, Twitter and Instagram for recent news and photos.
